Twittex

At Gradwell, we’d recently launched a new service website, gradwellstatus.com. The service keeps our customers informed of alerts and maintenance of our major services (broadband, email, hosting and VoIP). The new service published updates to Twitter, a micro-blogging and networking site, so that our customers could use Twitter’s SMS alerts for when they were away from the office.

Up until 14th August 2008, Twitter provided a free SMS alerts service for its users in the UK. The cost of providing this service was one that Twitter couldn’t continue to carry, and the service was withdrawn. So we built twittex!

We hope that our new service can fill the void and help to continue to provide our customers (and new twittex customers) with vital updates.

For more information please visit www.twittex.com and, as an added introductory bonus, anyone that registers is rewarded with 20 free updates!
Maintenance Windows

Gradwell is committed to keeping disruption of your service to a minimum. To help you plan ahead, we are introducing regular maintenance windows, which are times where we will schedule our planned maintenance work.

The maintenance windows will be 10pm-2am every Tuesday and Thursday.

We will notify all customers of scheduled work a minimum of 7 calendar days in advance. Notices will be posted on our GradwellStatus.com website, which provides a variety of ways to subscribe to notifications (including email, SMS via Twittex, Google Calendar, and Twitter).

At-risk times

Sometimes, we have to carry out disruptive emergency work that can’t wait for a maintenance window. We will do our best to do this work out of office hours where possible, between 9pm-2am every day. We will provide as much notice in advance as possible. Notices will be posted on our GradwellStatus.com website.

During maintenance windows and at-risk times, your services from Gradwell may be unavailable.

BathCamp ‘08

We’re just back from 24 hours of interesting ideas, interesting people and pizza at BathCamp ‘08, a user generated conference — open, participatory workshop-event, with content provided by participants — mainly focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.

Talks ranged from herbs to “The Gurgitator” to archaeological computing to learning Chinese, this is shaping up to be a fantastically diverse and interesting weekend.

Peter Gradwell was present, reflecting on some of the interesting things we have done and are planning to do with VoIP+Web Integration.

Statistics

As one of our many customers, we thought we’d keep you updated with our latest figures.

You might like to know that we currently have a customer base of over 14,000. Those customers are making and receiving over 2 million minutes of calls, via 30,000 phone numbers every month. So if you are not using our VoIP services perhaps you should take a look at our various packages.

In the first couple of months of the product we have also enabled over 200 Premium DSL lines providing optimum line quality for our VoIP services. All users are reporting excellent results from higher speeds, quality and reliability – so if you are unhappy with your current ISP why not take a look at our DSL options.

Away from VoIP, we manage around 17,000 Email boxes, host 6,000 websites and have 25,000 domains under DNS. So again if you are thinking of setting up email or web hosting or unhappy with your current service provider have a look at what we have to offer for Email and Web Hosting. Finally, don’t forget that if you are out on the road a lot, or using a cut down broadband service then you may not have a reliable server for sending email. Many customers use our SMTP Outbound service as an alternative for just £15 a year.

Conclusion

I hope the update is useful, if you have any feedback, please let me know via email to marketing@gradwell.net.

Best Regards

Peter Gradwell
